Private school based in Cheadle Hulme, that accommodates pupils ages 3-18, from Pre-School to Year 13 (Upper Sixth).
"We provide an outstanding and inspiring education that not only installs in its pupils a deep love of learning, but also the ability to adapt to change and to think creatively and critically about the world around them." Cheadle Hulme School
"CHS was founded in 1855 in order to provide an education for the orphans and poor children of warehousemen and clerks of Manchester. From its mid-nineteenth century foundation to the present day, the School has maintained a tradition of co-education, educational innovation and a strong emphasis on community.
Life at CHS is under-pinned by a very clear set of values (School Website | This Website), through which we aim to ensure that each member of the school community is able to fulfil their potential and to flourish in the wider world.
This is perfectly illustrated by the Academic, Active and Altruistic life at CHS. We place a keen emphasis on learning as a developing process, providing pupils with success in external examinations whilst also instilling in them a desire, and capacity, to further their academic interests outside of the classroom.
Developing the rounded individual who has the skills to manage themselves, whilst appreciating their role as a member of wider communities is key to the pastoral life at CHS. In addition, the extensive range of co-curricular activities available means that pupils are able to gain experiences essential to their wider personal and social development.
I hope that you are keen to learn more about CHS, and the opportunities for your child. I strongly recommend that you read the report from our inspection (School Website | This Website) here and visit the school in person.
I look forward to meeting you."
About the School
Cheadle Hulme School is an independent co-educational day school for pupils aged between 3 and 18 years. The school was founded in 1855 as the Manchester Warehousemen and Clerks’ Orphans’ School moved to its present site in a suburb of Manchester in 1869. The school is a charitable trust, administered by a board of governors. The current headmaster was appointed in September 2018. Since the previous inspection, the school has opened a preschool class for children aged between 3 and 4 years, created new facilities for the sixth form, introduced a high performance programme for pupils with special talents in sport, music and academic subjects, and a vocational sports option for sixth formers.
What the School Seeks to Do?
The school’s aim is to ensure that each pupil experiences a challenging, dynamic and relevant education which enables them to reach their full academic potential and flourish in a rapidly changing world. The objective is that each pupil develops a love of learning beyond the confines of examination courses and a broad, relevant set of skills and aptitudes which enable them to undertake useful and effective roles in their communities. The school also aims to offer an environment where each pupil develops a strong set of personal values and learns to value themselves and others, appreciating difference and individuality, supporting those in need or less fortunate than themselves.
About the Pupils
Pupils come from a large catchment area and range of backgrounds with a wide social and ethnic mix that reflects their local communities. Nationally standardised test data provided by the school indicate that the ability of the majority of pupils is above average in comparison to those taking the same tests nationally. The school has identified 280 pupils as having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), predominantly with dyslexia, 61 of whom receive additional specialist help. No pupils in the school have an education, health and care (EHC) plan. English is an additional language (EAL) for 34 pupils, 5 of whom receive specialist support.
