I am Rachel Wickes and welcome to the German Department.
In the Sixth Form, we study the Cambridge Pre U Course.
Skills
Cambridge Pre-U is an excellent preparation for university, employment and life. It helps to develop the in-depth subject knowledge and understanding which are so important to universities and employers. It enable learners to build on previous skills and knowledge and help develop the skills needed for effective communication. Learners gain essential tools and writing skills required for further study, as well as for the workplace.
Topics
There is great flexibility about what is covered and pupils’ preferences can be taken into account. As at IGCSE, reading, listening, speaking and writing are assessed, but the topic areas are more sophisticated and embedded in the culture of German- speaking countries.
Human relationships; family; generation gap; young people
Patterns of daily life; urban and rural life; the media; food and drink; law and order; religion and belief; health and fitness
Work and leisure; equality of opportunity; employment and unemployment; sport; travel and tourism; education; cultural life/heritage
Skills
Upper Sixth students have the opportunity to develop their research skills as they explore an area of personal interest for their speaking test. They also study a literary text and a topic covering 2 films. Current students are studying Kleist's "die Marquise von O", the series "Deutschland 83" and film "Barbara"
